Biography.
Born in Sydney in 1956 I grew up in the inner city suburb of Kensington, the fourth of nine children. I have always enjoyed a love of sketching and art, although upon graduating from Sydney Girl’s High School in 1973 a career in art was not considered a suitable career for a young lady. I commenced training as a buyer for David Jones and eventually chose to marry young and start a family. Six years ago with our four children grown up I found a need to rediscover myself and commencing drawing and painting has been a turning point in my life.
In the past six years I have had the great privilege of studying with a number of esteemed Sydney artists, Paul Newton, Yvonne Cleaver, Yve Close and I currently attend the Julian Ashton Art School where I have studied with Francis Giacco for the past three years.
2006 has produced my third entry in the Archibald Exhibition with a portrait of Lady Sonia McMahon, not selected for hanging but now hanging proudly in her private collection. My first entry in The Archibald Exhibition was with a portrait of Miss June Daly Watkins in 2002 and in 2004 with a portrait of Robin Witika an enigmatic Sydney musician.
Having entered a number of Art Shows and exhibitions my greatest accolade has been in 2005 - 1st prize for Human Portraiture in the Coonabarabran Agricultural Show.
I have had two successful exhibitions at The Art Gallery in Coonabarabran
And in 2006 - A Solo Exhibition at the Sydney Antique Centre.
Over the past six years I have produced prolific works exploring a wide range of subjects and styles and experimenting with every medium available although I have a particular love of portraiture and my aim is to use any method available to capture the spirit of life on canvas. I do hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoy producing it.
